Anchor bolts epoxy question 1

My contractor missed a set of anchor bolts and needed to epoxy a set to fix. He used powers AC100+gold epoxy, no problem there. The issue is he used anchor bolts that were slick on the embedded portion(only threaded on the projection). He has 8" embedment on a 3/4" bolt. Are there any test showing strength if bolts aren't full thread?

Write the epoxy manufactor, get a technical answer from their staff.

Include ALL dimensions, temperature at setting, setting time, hole dia, embed ida, embed length, etc.

Include forces normally expected and maximum loads.

Can you drill more embedded studs properly oriented between the new epoxied ones? If so, just cut out the backwards (slick-sided) studs.

Pull testing adhesive anchors is not common in California (required for hospitals). This is typically done by companies that perform special inspection.

For reference, some information on California Hospital test criteria can be found at or §1913A7 of the current California code

Oops, I meant to say not uncommon rather than not common

Not a good condition. Load test the bolts in place. Simple test that many testing labs can perform.

Sounds like your contractor is incompetent. Hopefully they won't kill anyone.

Update,
Thanks for the input. I ended up having the contractor core the bolts out and epoxy using B7 Threaded rod. Wasn't worth the risk. Thanks again for all the input

Did you core and then drill a slightly bigger hole? The bond stress is much less for cored holes.

They core drilled a 1 1/4" hole and took a 1/4" hammer drill bit and scarred the edges

You should have changed adhesives if you went with an oversized hole. AC100+ is a hybrid adhesive (looks like cement). These adhesives rely on the compression of the adhesive in a hole slightly larger than the anchor. Their tensile capacity is not good. You should have gone with the PE 1000 or Hilti's RE500 which is an epoxy (more like glue). These true epoxies are more forgiving.
