Experts,

In the "Foundation Engineering" forum I posted a similar question about the UCS of grout for sinkhole purposes (foundations).

Now my question is for anchors (tiebacks and rockbolts) how important in the UCS of the grout?.

I have been involved in anchor projects and engineers usually specify grout UCS between 3000 and 5000 psi.

I am not sure what is the relationship between the grout UCS and the anchor or rockbolt force.

Can anyone please explain?. Thanks

The strength of the anchor grout is relatively unimportant. If the anchor passes its load test, the grout was good. Grout for tieback anchors is most commonly Portland cement and water with a w/c ratio of 0.45 to 0.5 or 5 to 5.5 gallons of water per 94# bag of cement. This mix should give about 5000 psi at 28 days if properly sampled, cured, stored, transported, and tested. If you are going to be involved in tiebaclk anchors, I suggest you buy a copy of the Post-Tensioning Institute's Recommendations for Prestressed Rock and Soil Anchors.

Thanks a lot PEinc for your input.

Sorry for posting this again as I did not recall having done so. I will make sure this doesn't happen again.
