Dear friends ,

Kindly advise the difference between Annealing and Solution Annealing Process . How does it affect the hardness of the material ?

Do you have any text book on Physical Metallurgy or Heat Treatment Technology. Have you done a Google search .

 
The practice will depend on the material.
In general annealing means to soften.
Solution anneal means to use a high enough temperature to fully dissolve any precipitates.
Process anneal means to do it as part of the the production (such as cooling from hot rolling, forging, or extrusion) as opposed to re-heating later.

You need a book or two.

Yes , I have done a search and the main difference mentioned is the temperature and holding period which is higher in sol. annealed . However I would request you to advise me a book or two which would provide me in-depth details regarding the effects on the material for both processes.

The material is question is Alloy 625 Bars which will be forged into flanges . The hardness of the Raw Bar is between 240 - 260 HB. Once the bar is forged into flanges , the hardness is decreased to 195 - 220 BHN.

We require the HARDNESS to be in the range of 235 BHN after the forging and annealing process.

In this case you need many details.
Are yo allowed to 'process anneal' these parts? That is if you finish hot work temp is in the anneal range can you claim this as an anneal? Or do you need to re-anneal to meet the spec?

It is usually good practice to thermally stress relieve/anneal hot forged parts. There are also recommended upper/lower temperature limits for hot forging most materials. During the hot forging process for your 625 Inconel bar stock, it will be heated to a temperature high enough (close to 2150degF) to anneal it.
