Annotated text size in paper space

Sorry this might be a simple question for most...
I understand and love the idea of paper space, but I cannot figure out how to make annotated text an appropriate size when I change scale. As a surveyor, I label bearing/distance on all my linework. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Put your labels in paper space the you don't have to worry about size. If you must put it in model space either use a dimension to create text (for instance use DIMORDINATE) and set your dimscale in the dimension style to suit the magnification of the viewport, or set the text height using an appropriate style.

if you are running civil 3D, then once you type the text, go to its properties window and select "yes" for annotative. then, right click on your text and select add annotative scales, then add all the scales you think your viewport(s) will be set at. then go to your viewport,select it, bring up properties window. here, match your annotation scale to your viewport scale. lets say you want your text size to be 0.12" in paper space, and your text size in model space is 7.2; 60 scale will give you 0.12". if you have your text annotative, when you change your viewport scale to 100 scale, it will automatically adjust itself to remain at 0.12" after the scale changes, and not become 0.072". you can do this with hatches, blocks, arrow heads etc as well. hope this helps!

All bearings and distances s/b typed in model space (MS)not paper space. The size of the text in MS should be proportional to the scale factor (SF) derived from the scale which you will plot the drawing. For example if the plot scale is 1"=60' then the SF will be 720 (=60'*12/1"), therefore if you are looking to plot the text in PS at 3/16", the same text that you type in MS will be 3/16*720=135". If you still intend to type that same text mentioned above in PS then when you execute the command text, just enter 3/16" or whatever actual height you want to be plotted.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not running civil 3d. I'm running what's called Survey 2006. It's a stand alone program made by Carlson Software for Autodesk.

If I want the same model plotted in three different viewports at three different scales (1"=100'overview, 1"=50'plan, 1"=10'detail) do I need three different sets of text (bearings/distances etc.)?

Yes. Unless you put your text in Paper space.

With three different scales, you can make three copies of the plot in MS and change your text height accordingly. It may gobble up a lot of memory.

You can also create three different for each text height on the same drawing. Just turnoff those two layers that you dont wanty to print.
