Annoying Patent Websites 1

This morning I did a Google search on voltage translation and the first 2 pages were patent websites. As far as I am concerned these sites are of no value, and really annoying. However, they must be pretty good at search engine optimization. Has anyone else noticed the increase in these sites? Does anyone know of a search engine that produces better results when it comes to technical queries?

Maybe I just need to make sure I finish my coffee before preforming any web searches.

If you use Firefox, use customizegoogle addon. It allows you to exclude websites (domain, sub-domain or page) from being displayed prominently in google search results. You designate those sites you don't want to show up and they will be ghosted in future results page.

Works well with the addon googlepreview as there will be no preview for those unwanted sites and are easy to ignore.

Of course, you can always try to add -patent to your query.

"Annoying Patent Websites"

Isn't the annoying redundant, I haven't come across another kind.

The -patent works well for me.

KENAT,

Have you reminded yourself of faq731-376 recently, or taken a look at

The other annoyance is websites with list of vendors or suppliers. So if you're looking for Acme Anvils, you'll find a half-dozen listings of Anvilsandotherstuff.com type places that just list other websites, with no useful content.

Star for you, swearingen. That site is great.
