I'm just starting to investigate FEA products for simulating an anodizing process. Ideally, I would like to be able to include as many variables as I can (e.g., solution conductivity, solution temperature, voltage and/or current, number of parts, anode/cathode size, location of parts within the tank, etc.). Does anyone have any recommendations/experience for FEA software products? I'm assuming that high end products (such as Ansys) can probably handle this but I also have to be mindful of the cost.

you are going to need a multi-physics simulation code. look at COMSOL.

BUT, if you have no experience with FEA or this type of analysis, well, good luck. And where are you going to find the material and process properties to feed into the analysis?

Why use FEA for this simulation ? maybe CFD is more appropriate ?

Are you trying to analyze the body of (practical) knowledge out there ?

Maybe Chem Eng ??

Thanks for the responses. I agree that multi-physics is necessary (it's more than just a CFD problem). I'm experienced with FEA so I'll be able to work through the technical aspects. I just know that this analysis is beyond the capability of the package that I have access to right now.

I don't see this as an FEA problem. You're modelling the deposition of chemicals, the reactions of chemicals.

If this is worth modelling, I'd be very surprised if no one has done this before.

It may not be worth modelling if the people who do it understand how the process works and how the inputs of the process affect the outcomes.
Maybe something like a s/sht ?

I just don't see this as a FEA problem; FEA is suited to bulk problems and effects, not surface phenomenologies. Anodizing is mostly about thin surface layers of atoms, which is not really the baliwick of FEA
