I have a document that says for general surfaces of aluminum, the part shall be chromate conversion coated per MIL-C-5541, Class 1A or anodized per MIL-A-8625 Type 1, Class 1.
I like to know, how does one select one process over the other (anodizing vs. CCC)? Any feedback will be helpful.
Thank you.

MIL-A-8625 Type 1, Class 1 is superior for corrosion resistance. MIL-C-5541 degrade when exposed for long time to temperatures above 60 C degrees.

metallurgisttaj,

Chemical conversion coatings are electrically conductive, and very much more fragile than an anodized finish. (Hexavalent) chromium conversion coatings are not RoHS compliant.

You can specify RoHS compliant chemical conversion coatings.
