There are 2 types of Flanges available in ANSI B 16.47, series A and B. Is there any restrictions associated with the use both the series or they can be used anywhere?

If you read paragraph 1.2 under the Scope in ANSI B16.47, it states that Series A flanges are for general use and Series B flanges are for compact use, because the bolt circle diameter is smaller than Series A flanges. These two series of flanges are NOT interchangeable. Use of either A or B series depends on the equipment you are bolting up to in service.

Eabrar...

There are several good sources of information about these large piping flanges.

The TEXAS Flange company ( has excellent dimensional and other resources....they produce and sell both the "A" and "B" series...like most other texans, they are friendly and knowledgable about thier products.

It seems that the "B" series is more often incorporated into piping line specifications (
And large valve manufacturers target the "B" series for product development and future sales (
It seems that your final choice of flange series (A or B)should be governed by the valve selection for the system in question

My opinion only....

I have been searching for a dimensional drawing of welded pipe caps and have not found anything yet. We are welding "domed" pipe caps to 4, 6 and 8 inch, schedule 40, 80 and 120 pipe. Does anyone have any idea where to find this information?

mike57,

ASME B16.9, Factory-Made Wrought Buttwelding Fittings, Table 11 covers these dimensions.

Also, just about any fitting chart available from a number of sources including the web.
