Dear Forum,

I am currently trying to mesh a piece of 8020 aluminum in ANSYS. I am relatively new to the program, but I certainly have a basic understanding and have used other fea software. The problem I am having is each time I try the auto mesh in ANSYS workbench, it never gives me a mesh, it just keeps trying to create it. I understand that the geometry is pretty complex, but I feel like I have put even more complex geometry into it and it has meshed just fine. I have attached my part to this post, any feedback would be most helpful.

Thanks!

Hello mgpaul!
Mesh your geometry by using sweep method.
Your geometry is sweepable and it works, I've just meshed it.
To do this, right click on mesh, insert method and select there your geometry and as method sweep.
Good luck!
Best regards!

by default mine automatically meshed using sweep.

what sort of analysis are you trying to do? this could be done reasonably well with midplanes or perhaps plane strain depending what you want to know

I had not of trying the sweep, but I did a multibody mesh and it worked just fine and I added some inflation for the holes to further improve it. Thank you for the help though. This is just one of the 8020 aluminum bars that will be used to create a new force balance for a wind tunnel. We were having trouble with meshing the truss (which is made of multiple bars like this), and this should fix it. Again, thanks for the responses!
