ANSYS -> ABAQUS translation

I am an ABAQUS user and I am trying to translate an ANSYS model so ABAQUS can consume it.

I have tried using:

a) HyperMesh (HyperMesh->ANSYS->ABAQUS and HyperMesh->ANSYS->OptiStruct->LS-DYNA->ABAQUS)
b) FE-Modeler Workbench plug-in (ANSYS Workbench->FE-Modeler->Abaqus)
c) LS-DYNA Workbench plug-in (ANSYS Workbench->LS-DYNA->ABAQUS)
d) ABAQUS' own utility

with varying degrees of success. I am wondering if ANSYS experts here have any other option for me to try. Looking back, not terribly unsurprisingly, ABAQUS' own utility did the best job (but that may very well be due to my lack of facility with other tools).

So, do you have any suggestions for me?

Would it be a significant effort to just get the mesh into ABAQUS and recreate the model from scratch?
