in this regerd kindly inform me how to select the units in the imported model... means which unit this will be imported..or is there any mode i can control the units in the AnSYS..

please help..

Hai,
What is the file format your exporting? whether it is iges.
In preprocessor we can set the units. But setting the units has no meaning in ansys? If your exported model in CGS and then try to import it in SI units in ANSYS. ANSYS wouldn't do the job of putting the scale factor. You have to follow consistent units.

you will have to follow a consistent system of units vineet is right in quoting the above statement.
The units icon which is being provided in Ansys is only useful when you are importing a material property file.

Ramakant if you have made your drawing in mm then assume all the material properties like young's modulus, density with reference to mm.

cheers

thanks VINEET and NIKOLAS for a quick and useful reply
this problem will be solved as you suggested..

one more problem i am facing that whenever i import an IGES file in ANSYS, it gets imported in Surface forms only ..
i mean to say that no solids are imported ..pleasesuggest me a way to import a model in solid form...

thanks and regards

you will have to check the tolerances within SW2001 and ANSYS related to the export and import options. Also you will have to check the modeling techniques.

It has happened with me also. I use I-DEAS 7 for drawing models. The same model made by me and other colleague of mine using different steps would not give the same end result when exported to Ansys i.e. in my case I was able to export the model as a solid but my colleague wasn't able to do so.
Hence you will have to check the model with respect to both the above points I have mentioned above.

dear nikolas
thanks a lot for the reply..
i'll try this technique. Can you ellaborate the steps you have taken in terms of the commands etc in ANSYS or SW2001 etc..i mean to say how to set tolerences in the ANSYS 5.4
