The price of ANSYS is lower than the ABAQUS,
the difference could be several thousands, because
ANSYS is sold by the outside dealers.

ABAQUS' fracture mechanics and contact problem
solvers were better. Now such capabilities of
ANSYS are also very satisfactory.

ANSYS' own GUI is better than that of ABAQUS,
which came out much later.

ANSYS have more users than the ABAQUS. So ANSYS
skills maybe be more re-usable.

feaansys,

I have used ANSYS for 5 years and switched to ABAQUS about 6 months ago. In my opinion ABAQUS is a hands down winner.

If you compare the price, ABAQUS is significantly more expensive. However if you are able to put the software to use for product development, the cost will be recovered in a very short time.

Basic structure of ABAQUS is so much more logical as compared to ANSYS. Documentation is so much easier to use. Technical support is significantly superior from ABAQUS. In ANSYS model, the distributor who sells the software and does consulting work, also provides the technical support. The same person is performing all three activities,it is no wonder the technical support falls last on the priority list.

In terms of technical capabilities, ABAQUS is superior.
The new interface from ABAQUS called ABAQUS CAE is so much easier to use compared to ANSYS.

If you can afford it, ABAQUS is the way to go.

Thanks,

Gurmeet

I agree with the point that the GUI of abaqus/cae is user-friendly compared with ansys. Many years ago, I need to key in the inp file to run the program, create the node coordinate and element number, it was crazy.

The manual of abaqus is thicker compared with ansys.

Hi all,
I agree that Ansys Classical is really not friendly, but please don't compare potatoes with apples: when it is said "[with Ansys] I need to key in the inp file", it is also said "Many years ago". I'd add: millennia ago!!!!
Well, you still CAN use PURE-APDL if you want (and most of the time you make parametrized models that are super-optimized), but why not say that Ansys also has its new interface, called Workbench, which is extremely cleverer than Classical? Why not say that you can at any time pass a model from Workbench to Classical if the task is too complicated for the built-in engine of Workbench?
