Hello,

I would like to polish my logging skill so that I can train juniors with confidence. Especially I want to know proper way to describe rock structure such as bedding or characteristics of discontinuity. What book/manual do you recommend ? I have found some ASTM, e.g.D2488 Standard Practice for Description and Identification of Soils, US Army Corp Geotech Investivation Manual, or FHWA Subsurface Investigations Manual. Is there any book/manual widely accepted/recommended by experienced engineer ??

Thank you in advance.

I was looking for an updated version of 'Geologic Logging and Sampling of Rock Core for Engineering Purposes', to no avail. try this link which you may have to retype:
technical-services/technical-services-repository/gem23.pdf
or
The 1st 2 sentences of the USBr paper sets a good tone.
'Subsurface sampling is expensive and time consuming, so it makes sense to obtain all information possible from the investigative process and the retrieved samples. After
expending the money and effort to obtain subsurface
information, the samples should not be subjected to
unacceptable temperature, rough handling, shoddy
packaging, or harsh transportation methods.'
