Hi..Looking for material recommendations on a cylidrical component that can be extruded internally and then machined on the outer surface?
Thank you.

Most aluminum alloys can be extruded. The 6000 and 7000 series alloys machine very well after heat treatment.

I would lean toward the 6000's.
Talk to your extrusion supplier first, that will be the tougher operation.

Sounds like a piston alloy. 4032 or 2018?

Jessica - Google shows that your response was plagiarized. It's also not on topic, which is extrusion compatibility with machining. Copying from a CNC company is poor. Failing to indicate the source is worse.

Often hard to detect, single phasing can cause a motor to burn out. ... According to Purcell, A VFD will protect the life of a motor and help simplify speed control, starting, and stopping." It is produced by partial and selective hydrogenating of styrene-butadiene-styrene copolymer (SBS)1 which improves the thermal stability, weathering and oil resistance, and makes SEBS steam sterilisable." Also plagiarized.[/li]

To other engineers - please don't reward this.

Jaconb Henry seems to be anther of the plagiarizers. Google shows that your response was plagiarized. It's also not on topic, which is extrusion compatibility with machining. Copying from a another company is poor. Failing to indicate the source is worse.

It seems like calling them out attracted more.

Both industrial engineers. Hmmm - posts deleted now. Mods are onto them.
