Hi all,
I'm just starting to review the brand new Div.2. Starting to get a feeling that the Div2 members are getting paid by per pound of paper because it is very thick this time around.

I see that they've given us the option to design by rules. I was just wondering if there is already a paper out that summarized the changes and talk about the impact of this rewrite to a Div 2 design and cost. Thanks.

see thread292-194492.

There will need to be made available more training courses for designers to become familiar with this greatly revised code.

Dave,
Thank you for the info. I missed that thread all together.

has a variance for the use of the new Div 2 in Alberta. The variance and the Technical Council Report is on the website.

I just got my hands on the whole package (Div 1, 2 and 3) and I'm flying over the pages as quick as I can.
Mixed impressions (the cover shows a typical API tank!!), many changes and re-wording for clarification, but overall a tick of approval after the first glimpse;-
I suggest to open a new forum dedicated to the ASME VIII Ed. 2007, even if a temporary one, to allow anyone to post opinions, question, clarifications, to benefit all of us.
Any support?

Cheers,

gr2vessels i agree with your proposal, i think the changes of Div. 2 are of such importance as to require a new Forum, i am now trying to get the new edition to begin to study. Any idea about how to get a copy?

Decoder,
Apart from buying one from ASME, I could not suggest any other proper way. However, I can assure you that there are a lot of shonky websites, particularly in South East Asia, where you can buy a pdf copy for a fraction of price.
Please note that my company was willing to buy the package because in 6 months time the new Code will become mandatory and by then, we all have to be fully conversant with it.

I would like to contribute also to the discussions over the new edition and to learn the same time others expert opinion. I'm not sure who and how could someone generate the new forum, but hopefully "the one" will read this post and help to keep all the comments in one place, for everyone's easy access.

Best regards,
gr2vessels

"Shonky websites"? Where? What's the link? LOL.

Well, if you want to buy the code on-line you can buy all the Codes you want from IHS. I don't work for them.

Sorry, I can't provide address of pirated copies websites, simply because I'm not in the business of promoting those sites. Also, I think ASME deserves their revenue for the past and future work, directly or via IHS or any legitimate retail outlet.
Best regards,

I know. I was just kidding with you. "LOL" means laughing out loud.

The ASME Boiler and PV committees met this week in New Orleans at the Sheraton hotel on Canal street. A presentation was given on Sunday pm concerning the Div 2 rewrite. You can get a copy of the presentation by contacting the ASME office at the hotel today or ASME NY office next week.
