Hi

Iam looking for a PDF document giving details of the capabilities of the swept volume command in NX12.. I search in help document, its not much information there. Also, NX12, we do not have ability to save the parasolid or step file of the swept volume , we have to boolean it ( Unite , subtract , interfere ) . No option of None.. NX10 used to have it..

Why was this capability taken away in NX12? Can we get it back in MP6 or 7?

Do You mean you get an error message while trying to apply a boolean?
Or you don't get the option at all?

Answer to last case is that it is still available... Maybe you will have to reset the menu (cogwheel upper left corner)

Hi All,

I was mentioning that there used be an option on None in the drop down for Boolean. But in NX12 , its removed. It was very helpful as we can copy the body Swept Volume created and know the tool path..

Iam not sure why Siemens took that option out from the drop down menu.. Please help bring it back in one of the Maintenance Pack.

We usually did this with the intersect option. This is the best we could find. A none for the swept volume would be a nice addition. I do not remember ever having the none option for the swept Volume, But We have been on NX 11 for a while now. So my memory could be fading a bit.

Yes we had.. In all other commands in NX, the boolean operation has None as one of the option to create the solid. But Swept Volume does not have..

Can Siemens make commands consistent? Over the years I have seen, commands having same options, behave differently . May be due to the fact that they are developed all around the world and teams are not synchronized .

This command was never intended to have the None option. The original intent of the Swept Volume command was to be able to sweep a volume to be used as a tool body for a Subtract or Intersection. If you feel it needs to be improved in some way, then submit an ER to GTAC.

From the Help Docs:

Use the Swept Volume command to sweep a solid body along a path using various options to control the orientation of the tool with respect to the path and either subtracts it from or intersects it with a target body.

A tool body:
[ul]
[li]Must be a single solid body.[/li]
[li]Must not have any through holes, blind holes or internal voids.[/li]
[li]Axis must intersect the tool path within the bounds of the tool body.[/li]
[li]Must be created from analytical geometry.[/li]
[li]Must be created as cylindrical or revolved from an axis that represents the tool axis or a sphere.[/li]
[/ul]

A tool body for planar paths may also contain:
[ul]
[li]Non-analytical geometry.[/li]
[li]Concave faces.[/li]
[li]Concave edges forming a stepped staircase profile.[/li]
[/ul]
