Any recommendations for the OPTIMAL SW Network Server

We've got about a dozen users working off a single server. I have been assigned the task of specifying an upgrade to our present server. We will storing all of our files (750Gb?)on this machine along with PDM software. Is a dual processor set-up the best? Should we have multiple drives for each application? If our workstations are maxed out with RAM, does the server have to be? Network card? How can we maximize our data transfer speed? Any SPECIFIC hardware recommendations would be appreciated...
