Any way to add new new config to a batch of parts?

Is there a macro out there that would add a new configuration to multiple parts. It's the same part, just a different material.

Thanks!

You want to add multiple config's to the same part, or multiple config's to multiple parts?
I think you may need API to do this? I don't know of a current one to use.

I have 60 parts, and want to add a configuration to each of them, without having to open each part and add the configuration. There is no geometry change, only a material change.

You are correct, but I see no consensus.

Based on your answer, I'm assuming it's possible to add a configuration to multiple different parts in a single function.

I've only been able to marco the material configuration a single part at a time. I've also tried a few macros that copy properties again, only a single part at a time....but I don't think there's a way to copy configurations from one part to another.

ctopher and myself agree that using a macro is the way to do this.

Writing a macro that updates multiple documents is non-trivial and can't be done just with the macro recorder. It requires traversing a folder or a file with a list of file names and it requires getting and setting configuration information. It also requires that there is a consistent organization for the way you do configs.

People with PDM systems have this taken care of by the PDM system.

@goodtruant

What is your requirements with the configuration and material type. I mean what "Configuration name" and "material details". I can help with a macro that can add the configuration with material to multiple files.
