Any way to remove a solid from a solid?

Hey all, would there be a way to remove a solid from a solid? Any AutoCAD users would know what I'm referring to with the subtract command. What I have is a 2 parts, one needs the negative of the other without actually using it. Is there any way to do this? Keep in mind that these are 2 parts and not an assembly. I need to bring them both together and then remove one from the other so I'm left with the "imprint" of the other one. Let me know if you need more info.

Inter-part copy.

If they are modeled about the origin in such as way as to be able to just overlay them, you could use an insert part copy and bring one part into another part as a construction body. If they are not aligned, relatively speaking, within their own part files to be able to directly overlay them, then create an assembly file to position the parts correctly, relative to each other.

The edit one part in-place and insert a part copy of the other part as a construction body. You can then use Boolean Subtract to create the body cavity.

You couldn't have had any better timing... I figured out how to bring one part into the other using inter-part copy and got them lined up and I was at the point of saying to myself "now what?" when I came back to this post. Thank you very much. One of these days I'll be answering questions here!

Why do I keep getting a bolean operation failed? It seems that when I do a part copy the it comes in as surfaces instead of a solid. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong?
