Hi there.. hope this is in the right category..

I found a website called and he reckons he can simulate the forming process in a draw die using something called finite element analysis and predict problems like wrinkles and splits.

I want to get him to do some simulation for me but first I want to know if anyone here has every heard of this or done it before. Is it something I can do myself? I think I will try him anyway, since he offered to do one for free.

Any info anyone has would be good.

Steebo,

Forming simulation is performed every day in industry to solve problems exactly like the ones you described. It is a very powerful tool when used by an expert. You would not be able to do this yourself without education and training of the techniques and software.

There is a lifetime's worth of information on the Internet, in books, and in technical journals. Keywords to use would include forming, simulation, software, finite element, and finite volume.

Regards,

Cory
