I have a copy of Maxwell for Solidworks rendering but the material database is empty. Tried for hours to figure it out to no avail. Anyone else using this program?

Thanks in advance,
BB

It's been a while but I believe the Maxwell materials are a seperate download from the application.

If you're using the SolidWorks Plug-in for Maxwell you have to load the materials into the plug-in (define file locations) in order to see them.

The last time I tried it was when they released the SW 2006 compatibility package--which really wasn't compatible. It looks very powerful, and I love the dynamic adjustability of lighting after creating a rendered scene. But from my last experience, it appeared as though each scene would need to be exported from SolidWorks, materials reapplied to each part, and lots of time wasted in having to set up any scene in which a part suddenly moved--plus, simple hinge movement (or similar) of parts which can be done with mates in SolidWorks, would be lost within Maxwell. Makes for some tedious work.

The latest Maxwell plug-in for SW is really pretty nice. It's much more complete than the earlier versions. You can actually set up and complete a rendering inside the plug-in now with great results. There is still a texture control stumbling block (common for all 3rd party rendering packages for SW) but it's being worked on.

I have no idea what to try next. All the materials are in the materials folder but they do not show up in Maxwell. Here is a shot of what I see. Volume 1 does not expand.

I wish we could edit posts after posting them.....the image shows the Texture catalog which looks the same as the materials catalog.

Thanks

One way to do it is go to the Maxwell menu and open the MXM browser. You can browse materials in the browser and drag and drop the ones you like into SW. Once you drop them they are added to the material database in the Maxwell task pane. They stay there until you delete them.
