I had a client ask me today if I could help him get an API 619 "Certification" so he could get his Monogram as a compressor manufacturer.
After an afternoon of digging through the web sites of screw compressor manufacturers I couldn't find any that claimed to be API 619 "Certified". Several were proud of their ISO 9001:2000 certification, but nothing about API. Then I read API 619 (really I skimmed it, but I don't think I missed a lot) and it says nothing about certification. Finally I went to API and looked up what standards they issue Monograms on, and none of the compressor standards were in the list.
For other standards I've seen (and done) a review and provided the manufacturer a letter on the letterhead of a P.E. with a stamp with words to the effect that the P.E. has "reviewed the processes, procedures, and record keeping and can verify that the company has the capability of building a [device] that complies with the requirements of API ___." Based on a letter like that companies have advertised that their stuff is "API ___ Compliant".
I feel like I've built a solid case that there is no such thing as an API 619 Certification. Does anyone have a feel for what else might be required to compete in today's world screw compressor market?
