I need a tank expert. In welding the annular floor plates to the shell plates, where floor plate thickness is 3/8" (P-No. 1, Group 1) and the shell plate is 1-1/4" (P-No. 1, Group 3) and impact testing at -25F is required.................
If the PQR/WPS is generated via a V-Groove test weld, will I be able to make fillet welds on all base metal thicknesses, OR, does the impact testing requirement restrict the minimum base metal thickness as per ASME Section IX QW-403.6 (2017 Ed.)???
The reason for the question is that if fillet weld base metal thickness is restricted per QW-403.6, multiple PQR's will be required (2 PQR's) to cover the range of thicknesses needed for the fillet welds.
Thanks,
CW
