We work on acid tank with skid beam Grillage how can we decrease the distortion of skid beam during weld of bottom plate notes that the skid beam above embedded plate concrete rep
Things that might help:
Use wider plates if available, for less welding.
Move the plate joints off the beams.
Weld some of the seams partially or fully while plates are upside down, then flip them over.
Different welding processes, more/fewer passes, different backup, changing pre-heat, etc., may help.
Having worked for the design of acid tanks , honestly i did not see and never used butt welded joint above the steel grillage beam. IMO , Annex I could be norm but not for acid tanks. My points ,
- The grillage is supported on dwarf walls( the ht could be 1500 mm ) for visual inspection and repair of the bottom,
- The butt welds should be visible and could be with backing strip.
In order to get better responds , provide more info ( size of the tank, acid type , temperature , material, lining ( if any ) ) .
