I know there are allot of intelligent tankies out there, I have worked with some of them throughout my career. I will be working with a contractor that will be erecting numerous 80'D x 42'H tanks and there process in welding the bottom is not the best. 100% of their bottoms have been bowed and wavy like something that belongs on the Bearing Sea in Alaska. Is there anything that has been published for the erection of tank bottoms, regardless of tank size?

The first question is how bowed and how wavy?

Bottom flatness can vary depending on plate width and thickness used, type of plate, welding procedure, and welding sequence.

flat bottom,
Bottom welding sequence includes much artistry and experience. It hard to get someone to write this stuff down... so, it's not readily availale to us regular folk. The very best document I have seen was a 1970s boilermaker training manual published by the Province of British Columbia. As of about two years ago it was still available. I was told that someone obtained a copy via a website link on the Province's web site.
