API 650 does not provide any guideline regarding hydrotest minimum duration when for example hydrotest duration should depend on soil conditions and predictible settlement ; of course, I am not saying that hydrotest shall be used as a preloading mean but I observe that operation constraints lead to minimize full hydrotest duration when in the sixties, this duration could be 1 to 2 months ;
Is there any regulation API or other mentioning any hydrotest mini duration ?

A 24 hour hydrotest is implied. API-650, 11th Edition, Section 7.3.6.5 (e) makes refernce to checking the foundation elevations 24 hours after the tank has been filled. API-653 also mentions a 24 hour hydrotest.

Thank you Joe ; to me this version is new ...
for new tanks, API 650 § 7.3.6.5.2.e.iv) is very clear ; I understand it is up to the Client to specify more than 24 hrs depending on expected settlement ; but when the contractor has received the geotech survey report before the Client's order, he is assumed to advise the Client to ajust hydrotest duration accordingly
for existing tanks, API 653 § 12.3.1 24 hrs only are required may be because the predictible settlement is assumed to have been achieved

In API-650 the foundation issues are the sole responsibility of the owner, not the tank contractor. The contractror is only responsible for tank design and construction. The owner is expected to provide engineering considerations for the foundation, not the tank conntractor.
