I am working on PR2 testing ,i have a problem.API 6A Annex F (F1.8 b) notes that:

1."Gas testing is required for equipment for rated working pressures of 69,0 MPa (10 000 psi) and higher "

2.and it assumes all the dynamic tests on valves at minimum or maximum rated temperature should be performed using a gaseous state medium, such as F2.3.3.3 (dynamic test at maximum rated temperature : shall be performed as in F2.2.2.2, ......except the medium shall be gas)

I am wondering whether these gas tests should be performed on a 5000 psi valves or not.
Regards.

It explains the test procedure:
F.2.2.2.2 Dynamic test at room temperature
F.2.2.2.2.1 Procedure for gate and plug valves
a) The downstream end of the valve shall be filled with the test medium at 1 % or less of test pressure.
b) Pressure equal to the rated working pressure shall be applied against the upstream side of the gate or plug. All
subsequent seat tests shall be in the same direction.
c) The valve shall be fully opened, starting against the full differential pressure. Pressure shall be maintained at a
minimum of 50 % of the initial test pressure after the initial partial opening. The opening stroke may be
interrupted to adjust the pressure within the above limits.
d) The valve shall be fully closed while pressure is maintained within the limits of the preceding step.
e) The downstream pressure shall be bled to 1 % or less of test pressure after the valve is fully closed.
f) The above steps shall be repeated until a minimum of three open-and-close cycles have been carried out.

Looks like F.2.2.2.2.1 b) is a full rated pressure test, hence applicable to 5000 psi rating.
F.2.2.2.2.1 c) is opening valve against full Dp (equalising pressure in both sides of test valve...inside test caps).
Its a 3 cycle test under Dp, no mention of seat leakages, but I suppose these are preformed between steps b) & c).
Ciao,

The dynamic tests are to determine the durability of seats and gate surface, any damage may occur during these cycles and after that a static pressure test will be performed in order to check the seat leakage.
the test above is PR1.PR2 is the same but the cycle number is 160 for room temperature and 20 cycles for min and max temperatures each.
