I am currently designing a vertical vessel at 10,000 PSI and the customer wants some piping to come off the 2-1/16" API 6A Flange that pipes down from the outlet to the bottom of the vessel and continue on to another process. What type of pipe (schedule, grade, etc.) is commonly used in conjunction with API 6A type flanges, especially at a high pressure?

Thanks!

Standard piping to B31.3 is fairly common. You just need to show it the P & ID where the code change is. You just use the pipe grade you want at the temperature you are designing to and calculate the wall thickness as normal.

API flanges and nominal pipe sizes fit well despite the apparent difference (e.g. 2 1/16 vs 2")

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way

Vessel nozzle flange is the jurisdictional limit after that any piping can be connected. There is no specific rule but as littleinch mentioned, check your P&IDs for piping class. Based on pressure, design temperature, pipe material being used, pipe thickness can be calculated.
