API flush plan difference between seal flush and external flush

Dear Sir

Could you please kindly tell that a trivial question?
The difference be twee self flush and external flush?

Plan 01,02,11,12,13,14,21,22,23,41,51,52,61,71,75,76-self flush.
Plan 32,53A/B/C,54,62,72,74-external flush.

And, beside that, there is many cooling method such as K, M,...
,and how to tell what kind of cooling function work for the
self flush/external flush plan.

I'd disagree with your grouping:

02 = no flush
23 = recirculation
51 = external quench blanket
52 = external reservoir (buffer), but not a "flush"
53 = external reservoir (barrier), but not a "flush"
61 = no flush (tagged + plugged for future use)
62 = external quench (different from flush)
71 = gas barrier (tagged + plugged for future use)
75 = condensate containment
76 = vapour containment

Cooling plan use is detailed in API 610 and 682. I suggest you read those standards then ask a specific question. Basically Plans K and M include provisions for seal heat enchangers.

You need to get a copy of API 682 for future reference and you may want to contact your local seal supplier who can give you a Piping Plan Booklet (Pocket Size)

Plan 11 is what you are referring to Self flush where the product is circulated from the pump discharge back to seal whereas External Flush Plan 32, this is an external Flush that dilute the process if used.

The other trivial question is :

Is it possible that API Plan 53 and ANSI plan 7353 shown
on the same drawing ( please the attached file)?

Is it possible that all instrument tag (TG, PG, LG) required for API plan 53 also fit in the ANSI plan 7353 ?


Is other like canned motor pump seal plan drawing also required to show up in the P&ID
legend?

If you are using ANSI pumps you will use ANSI plan.
If you are using API pumps you will use API 682 last version plan.
Yes, will instrumentation you like according with suitable standard API or ANSI.
Instrummentation for Seal Plan should be shown on P$ID drawings.

API Plan 01 to 41 are flushing plan. The flushing liquid is allowed to mix with pumpage. In Plan 32 liquid from external source is flushing liquid and is allowed to mix with process liquid.

API Plan 51 onwards are for double seal or quenching. The external liquid or gas is not allowed to mix with the pumpage unless seal leaks.
