Hi,

I understand you can use some API materials like 4130 on process piping as long as the welding and heat treatment are done right. Can you use an ANSI and B31.3 listed materials e.g. A106B, piping and fittings in an API rated sections as long as the welding and pressure rating matches?

As much as possible, do it right the first time...

Just to clear up some misinformation.

4130 is an AISI low-alloy steel chemistry classification, not an API material. This steel can be heat treated to produce many different API pipe and tube grades. Many other API grades are made from different steels.

As to whether or not you can substitute a carbon steel pipe where a heat treated low-alloy steel pipe had been used, without knowing your application, there really is no way to be able to tell.
