Hi everyone I am a newbie here and was wondering if I could some ideas about this situation I have. The hydraulic problem I have is my hydraulic pump puts out 40 gallons a minute and the cylinder has a 5 inch bore with a 4 inch shaft with 32 inch stroke. The extend cycle is no problem however on the retract cycle It lugs down the motor. I did calculations and It should retract the cylinder In 1.5 seconds.So the amount of flow coming out of the extend port is around the hundred gallon mark. This of course is way to much for my 45 gpm spool to handle hence the lugging of the motor. So I'm trying to figure out a way to dump that large amount of flow in a quick manner. The hydraulic pump produces up to 2250 PSI. I imagine I will have to drill and weld another hydraulic hose port fitting of a large diameter on the back of the cylinder and whether a Pilot operated check valve or some other valve will hopefully work. There is no work load on the return cycle. If there is a solution for this problem I have another hydraulic cylinder on the same machine that will need the same solution. However it is a 6 inch bore with a 3 inch shaft.
