Hi,
I don't seem to be able to apply convection and a heat flux to a surface simultaneously in ANSYS, as per machining with coolant. The current model is a transient heat source, so the heat flux is reapplied in a do loop to a new element in every step. Any sugestions would be gratefully received.

What command(s) are you using to apply the heat flux and the convection? And why do you say that you can't apply this simultaneously?

See faq569-1083 for details on how to make best use of Eng-Tips.com

I am using the SFE command as part of a do loop, the convection is applied to the whole line, when the do loop runs, the convection is turned off as the heat flux is applied to the individual elements. Therefore there is no convection after the first heat flux is applied.
Hope this makes sense.....

You cannot apply convection to a line, only a surface, hence the SFE command usage.
