I am not familiar with mono-pump.

I want to know its major application, especially its advantage and disadvantage.

We have a process stream which contain 10% of petroleum coke and balance water.

The petroleum coke is sand-like material, its viscosity is low.

I do not know if it is feasible to apply mono-pump in this situation.

Mono pumps are aworld class progressive cavity style of pump. They are commonly used in pumping municipal sewage sludge, mine waste water and slurries. Mono have available ceramic coated rotors and a variety of elastomers for stators.

When selecting the pump ensure that the unit is slow running so that wear is reduced. Many manufactuers of this type of pump will sell a fast running unit which appears to be low cost. Then a year and a day later they will sell you the spares at exhorbitant prices.

Mono Pumps are one of the most ethical companies around and will select the pump for the duty.

If you have any doubt ask for a five year no fault warranty with the pump. You will soon see the "also-rans" duck for cover.

We had Monyo pumps on the produced water (containing small amounts of sand) on our dehydrators, they worked very well and were variable speed drive.

The water was about 180F. These were fairly low discharge pumps, 50 psi if I remember correctly and a few psi suction pressure.

The conventional progressive cavity mono pump has a rotor shaped like a twisted snake, that rotates without clearance in an elastomeric stationary stator-sleeve. This pump is used for clear fluids as well as for slurries and dry powders. It is especially well suited as feed pump for slurries to filter presses due to its even flow rate.

I've used Moyno (trademark) all-metal "mono pumps" to feed lube hydrotreaters with head pressures of 100 atm for many years without problems.

For slurry services, mono pumps use when solid content exceed of 20 percent(percent by VOLUME).
However this is a "rule of thumb" with its limitations.
Hope this help

Mono pumps are a good choice to handle slurries and high viscosity liquids. There are some trademarks that can create some dificulties at the tiem of selecting, as Moyno, Mohno, Netzch, you should be sure to be negotiating with the correct one. As far as I know, the older suppliers are Mohno and Netzch.
Regarding the installation, the pump is very sensible to fail because of dry running since it is self lubricated in the progressive cavity space, so you should provide some additional control to avoid this. We normally put a level control in the suction port, but if you are handling the pump in an Ex area, it may become a little more complicated but not very expensive.
Finally, Mohno pumps are really good and maybe your supplier can submit a similar applications users lits so you can personally check its performance.
