I recently heard that it was possible to split a solid to a join of multiple separate joins, then apply the color of those joins to the solid to have a multi-colored solid. Has anyone seen or heard of such an application before.
Yes I am aware of the federation option. We have used and tested this method to some degree, but there are some down falls with the federation functionality. Especially when your Rev H is made up of several non connex elements which would required several clicks to find and select all of the areas to apply color. Not to mention when going to rev I, resetting all colors back to originally. Our solid is live and made up of several color code standards, so I could not simply "reset properties".....unless I really change my tree structure to accommodate multiple bodies with separate color coding......then the user spends most of his days trying to manage multiple colored solid bodies as opposed to actually doing real design work.
When I heard about applying the color of a join to a solid object, I thought there may be some new developments im not aware of. Just trying to find fast easy solutions for our design dept.
Not to mention, that the federation functionality is not available with a CAC+MTE license configuration (which we may be migrating over to-we currently have 2 seats of it) I believe this comes with GS1 as opposed to GSD
A tip on colours as we must use paint by numbers for our manufacturing too. I have 2 favorites stored depending on how I assign colour (to the patch or to the feature)
On surface patches (split/sew features or individual segments of a solid feature) you can select all the colour patches using the topology method of the Search command.
This will return all surfaces patches with a specific colour. You can now set them to auto, grabbing the colour of the parent feature. Sometimes this would be faster than the general reset properties or individual selection of surface patches.
To store this as a favorite, use the Search function again, use the pull down in the Query area and the icon to the far right will turn yellow. Select this.
