Applying load in Abaqus

Hi all,

I am just wondering what is the best method of applying a distributed load in the CAE solver in Abaqus? I have been trying to apply body forces, using amplitudes which break my steps up into smaller steps but and my model still crashes with too many increments. Has anybody any idea why this might be happening, are there any common mistakes when applying loads in Abaqus?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Thanks for you reply, but I can't seem to open either of your links.

Maybe I should have explained my problem in a bit more detail..

I have two bodies, one rigid, one a flexible NL material. Originally I had applied a non-zero displacment to push the rigid body into the flexible body and never had much problems.
Now I want to apply loads instead of displacments. I've tried applying a small initial displacment to get over any contact issues that may arise, and then applying a load in the 2nd step.

But when I analyse my results, I notice that there is a von mises stress built up from the initial displacment but no increase in stress arising from the load application..but then when I look at the reaction forces I notice that there is a small reaction force arising from the initial step and a large reaction force arising from the load application (reaction force much too large). Also there there is no displacment arising from the second step.

Basically I'm really confused and I think that I'm not applying my load correctly (I'm applying a body force to the rigid body to push it into the deformable body). Maybe I should be applying my load differently?

Thanks for any help,

N
