Hello,
For my project, I wanted to study the effect of yarn tension. Is there a way to add pre-tension to the yarns in abaqus?
I have attached an image for reference. There are facilities for pretension in a bolt/bar however those example are fixed in directional.
What I find challenging here is the continuous variation of the yarn direction.
Thanks in advance,

What kind of elements do you use in this analysis ? You can define pretension as initial stress (predefined field). Just be careful with directions.

I am using wire elements in my analysis. The direction of tension is along the yarn geometry

Then it will be easy to define initial axial stress - just use S11 component for that.

This is going to be a beast to converge with all the chained contact. I suggest nonlinear penalty enforcement.

If the applied tensile force doesn't work out then try to apply strain, such as thermal expansion with a cooling temperature change.

What are the boundary conditions? Could you pull on it there to put tension in the yarn?
