Hello, thank you for your time.

Throughout the industry, large Arc Flash furnaces are used in smelters that demand large current inrush capacity and re-strikes (high current peak in a very short period).

Is there a way to control these spikes irrespective of having a utility connection or islanded network in order to limit the potential for network interruptions?

Please tell me if there are any diagrams that can help me understand.

Thanks a lot.

A STATCOM or other FACTS devices can provide reactive power compensation to address voltage variations. Is the arc furnace currently on an islanded network or is it connected to a utility connection?

Hi, thank you for your reply.

The arc furnace is in a network that is usually connected to a utility grid. However, if a disturbance occurs on the utility grid, the network is islanded.

Thanks.
