Arched Loose Lintel

What is the typical method/detail for lintel for a shallow brick arch over a window. The arch has a peak of about 1.5" relative to the bearing ends, this is over a width of about 3ft.

I was thinking that an arched angle could be made from plate, with it flattening out at the ends for the bearing - is that the typical solution? Or do you use a straight angle and notch the brick (it's a soldier course) to make up that overhang?

On larger ones, I specify rolled angle irons with welded bearing plates at the ends. Our local fabricator can get them rolled pretty easily.
On a small, shallow one like you have, that is a tough call. Honestly, I have seen plenty of these built without a lintel (the masons just form the arch out of plywood). I guess it is then up to the vinyl window to support the brick if it ever needs it - not that I am advocating this.

For short spans & shallow arches, I usually spec. rolled angles w/ horizontal extensions at the ends. Larger spans may require rolled wide flange shapes + rolled bottom plate & masonry anchors back to the beam web. Although some may argue that masonry arches are able to self-support, I've seen such arches fail over time from repeated freeze-thaw cycles & weathering disintegrating the mortar joints & loosening the units.
