Hi fellows, did anybody know a good tieback design manual or textbook for a tieback design, especially the arching factor (values) used for a tieback design? I have a lot of manuals talking about tieback, but none of them ever mentioned the arching factor values (FHWA-RD-75-128,129,130 mentioned it, but no any design values provided).

Manuals I have include: PTI (Recommendations for prestressed rock and soil anchors, post tensioning institute, 1996), the FHWA-RD-82-047 (title: Tiebacks), the FHWA-RD-75-128, 129, 130 (the lateral support systems and underpinning, Volumn I,II, III) and NAVAFAC 7.02.

Try:
FHWA-SA-96-038, Geotechnical Engineering Circular No. 2, Earth Retaining Systems

FHWA-IF-99-015, Geotechnical Engineering Circular No. 4, Ground Anchors and Anchored Systems

fndn,

Thanks for that link! I've been looking for tie-back design information myself..

EXCELLENT!

The Caltrans manual on tiebacks is from 1996. The FHWA geotechnical circulars are relatively recent, especially with respect to new earth pressure diagrams for tiedback walls.
