Over the last few years, I have had more and more architects trying to have us (mechanical engineer) take care of the envelope comcheck for new designs. I have just been telling them that we don't really deal with that and I've never done one and they end of doing it themselves. However, they always act like I should have known to provide an envelope comcheck along with the mechanical comcheck. I guess my question is, are mechanical designers starting to pick this up? I guess we can learn how to do it if that is becoming the norm but I wanted to see if anyone else has run into this. Thank you!

Inasmuch as the building envelope is under the control of the Architect and not the Engineer, it's his responsibility.

I am a mechanical engineer and do the energy calculation for just about every project I work on. A lot of the information I need for the Load calc is the same as what I need for the energy calc, so it has always made sense for me to do both. I use Energy Gauge Summit software (which I do not love).
