Hi,
Seeing as I had luck getting help here previously I'm hoping that I'm not pushing it by posting another question. My latest question is exactly what is in the subject line.
I am plugging away at the task of compiling a list of standard materials used by the company I work for into a central database. A necessary but rather tedious task to undertake as one might imagine. I have come across an internal specifiaction that goes back more than 30 years and am having some trouble reconciling it with current ASTM standards.
The spec sheet in front of me designates "Copper Alloy No. 360 (Free-Cutting Brass)" per specification QQ-B-626 in a condition specified as "Comp. 22" (which I take to mean "Composition 22"). Now UNS C36000 is "Free-Cutting Brass" and QQ-B-626 was discontinued in favor of ASTM-B16 in the early 90's. However I want to verify that there's nothing special about the requirements of Comp 22 above and beyond ASTM-B16.
I actually have the last revision of QQ-B-626 in front of me but I can find nothing obvious relavent to Comp 22 in the document (although there is reference to Comp 11 which seems to be the only thing similar present in the document). So if anyone out there can offer additional insight I would very much appreciate the help (as always).
A couple final pieces of info. First, if it makes any difference the material specifications are for Hex and Round Bar stock. Second, my web fishing trip trying to answer this question on my own seems to hint that UNS C36000 and Comp 22 are BOTH material designations and NOT a material designation coupled with a condition spec. Does that make sense to anyone else?
