Friends

I need information on the cross-sectional area and Young's Modulus (Elastic Modulus) for Steel Wire Ropes. I am going to use the standard 6 x 19 steel-cored bridge cable but I have no catalogue showing the metallic area or Elastic Modulus to use. I need to model the cable so that I can take into account the displacement. The supplier will supply us stretched lengths (initial stretch taken care of).

Any input will be highly appreciated.

My respects,

The supplier will be able to provide the information you are looking for. They typically test frequently.

Because of the torsional component, E is less for wire rope than for steel bar.
