A contractor I am working with is bidding a job that references the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association's Chapter 8. That Chapter is on concrete structures and foundations and I wondered if it contains any information on masonry for abutments or retaining walls. I hesitate to buy a copy of the chapter ($290) if it doesn't even cover masonry. Anyone have any experience with this manual?

Have you looked at the Table of Contents? It is available as a PDF. Doesn't look to me like masonry is covered.

I looked a Chapter 8; nothing about stone. Go to Google Books and look for an ancient book on railroad bridge design.

Yeah, I saw the table of contents, but wasn't sure if they still covered masonry a little bit in there. I'm thinking that it's not covered and it was just a boilerplate requirement. Thanks all.
