Looking for total price (material, labor, O & P) for armaflex on refrigerant piping (for 3-ton split DX), probably 7/8" or 3/4". Contractor has it @ $14/LF, seems high.

Note: looking for price of insulation, not piping.

Thanks

I bought a 10' stick of 3/4" just last week at the Home Depot for about six bucks, installed it and glued the entire seam in about six minutes. You can do the rest of the math.

Good luck with your bid!

R.S. Means Mechanical Cost Data, 2005, has the labor costs for closed cell foam insulation, 1/2" thick, for 1" pipe size at about $3.37/LF. If we add this to approx. $0.68/LF material costs and toss in O&P you could be at $6/LF. If you go with 3/8" thick insulation, it'll be more like $5/LF.

Is this contractor planning on painting the Armaflex after it's installed? This would add some to the price, but $14/foot is still high.

We paint exterior armaflex for UV protection (usually two coats are needed). Otherwise, it begins to get brittle and crack with sun exposure.
