Hi All,
I seem to remember, several versions and years ago, that AutoCAD had an option under Array where you could pick the distance over which the array would be placed, as well as the familiar number of columns, rows, etc...

For instance, say I had a line, A, 67 inches long, and I had another line, B, perpendicular to it. If I wanted an array of 19 lines "B" over that distance of 67 inches, it works out to 3.52-ish inches. I had to do the division manually; is there a way to have AutoCAD do that for me in the current (2011) version?

Am I remembering incorrectly, or has that functionality simply been "placed" somewhere else over the years (I don't even remember seeing that option disappear from the Array dialog box in a new version)? I've never known AutoDesk to remove functionality; maybe they just called it something else.

Thanks,
SceneryDriver

You could create a polyline or spline and use the Divide or Measure command with Block option to get what you want.
I think with 2012 and later you can do this with the array command directly.

The key word in rollupswx post is MEASURE

you can use the POINT command to divide the A line into 67 segment and do a DI, with not less than 6 significant numbers after the decimal point, between two points. This value can be used in the column offset of your ARRAY command.

Thanks, chicopee! That's exactly what I was looking for!
