Hello,

I have a spring supplier produce a custom design spring for me.

Material and finish is as follows;
- Material is 17-7PH per AMS 5678.
- Passivate per AMS 2700 method I, type 8.

I have a note on my drawing which states;

"shall conform to SAE-AS13572, Type I Grade A, less centerless ground wire per 3.1.1."

My question is this:
Would the spring manufacturer be required to apply supplementary preservation coating as defined in paragraph 3.4.2? or is the supplementary coating applicable to carbon steel rings only?

No, the spring should not have a supplementary coating, that pertains only to carbon/alloy steels. 3.4.1 requires passivation of stainless steel springs.
