Asbestos' (or Asbestos-Cement's) Corrosion Resistance agaist Salt

Hello,

I was wondering if somebody can help me out with a question I have with concerns to Asbestos. Would anybody have a Chart that indicates the Corrosion Resistance of Asbestos (or Asbestos-Cement) against Salt? If so, I would greatly it if you could send me a copy or direct to me where I can get it. I am presently working on a design that requires we take a look at this detail.

The term salt covers a lot of territory so do you mean saltwater, brine, saturated brine, dry salt or what. There are many tables that show ACM, transite, pipe to be suitable with no problems. If you have certain impurities some specifications call for a different type cement in the makeup of the pipe.
We have pumped brackish and saltwater through Transite, ACM, pipe for over 40 years with no problems.
You might want to check out the AWWA site since there is a lot of this pipe in use today. You will not find very many references to ACM from US companies due to the association of Asbestos with lung diseases.
