ASCE 7-10 Wind calculations

Hi,
Is is possible that the wind shear and bending moment results generated from COMPRESS software have different values for operating and empty weight?? The gust factor calculations show two different gust factors being calculated against empty and operating weights?? Please guide

As JStephen indicated in your related thread, the gust factor per ASCE is a function of the natural frequency of the vessel. If this characteristic varies for the condition of the vessel (eg: new/corroded, hot/cold) then the gust factor may vary as well. This will depend on if the vessel is considered as a rigid structure or a flexible structure; the variation in gust factor occurs only for the flexible structure. COMPRESS will indicate if the vessel is considered rigid or not as per the wind code. Follow your copy of ASCE 7-10 for details of calculation of the gust factor (corresponding detailed calculations are given in COMPRESS).

And you can always submit your question to the support engineers at the software publisher, Codeware. I have heard that they are generally friendly and helpful.
