I know about asce 7-05, the current reference for the 2009 IBC and 2010 CBC, and the new 7-10. But what is an asce 7-08?

We are not based in California, and have a CA plan reviewer saying our calculations and design programs should be referencing 08, not 05.

Didn't know there was one, and don't see one so far on asce web site.

Am I missing something I really shouldn't be?

Thanks!

Not one to my knowledge. Used to be a 3 or 4 year cycle. Longer now. 95-98-02-05-10

To my knowledge, there is no ASCE 7-08. I have 7-05 and 7-10.

There is no ASCE 7-08. The reviewer is mistaken.

Come on JAE...don't they teach you in those liability seminars to equivocate just a little? [lol]

Thanks for the input. I really thought there was no 08, but didn't want to call the reviewer back until I tried to make sure I wasn't seriously mistaken - seemed like an unlikely error on her part.

OK...There is no ASCE 7-08. The reviewer is sorta mistaken.

JAE...as the professional liability carriers would like...

There is apparently no evidence of ASCE 7-08 having been published. While it was perhaps contemplated, it has, nevertheless, not been made available to the engineering profession and therefore cannot be appropriately referenced as an authoritative document.[rofl]

He might mean -98. And googling around, I find references to -08 used while it was in preparation, two years before it came out, so you could conceivably have a draft version somewhere labeled "-08".

Ron-
Nicely written. I assume that comes from years of preparing for expert testimony.

Ron - isn't that what "sorta" means?

I think your longer version sounds more intimidating and that would be a good thing.

I think it nicely communicating the idea that, while it may, in fact, exist (even if only as a draft), it is not a legal document to design to.

I think that unless you keep on top of it, you would assume there is an ASCE 7-08. I know I was looking for it a couple years ago when we were getting IBC '09 in the office. I quickly found out they switched from a three year cycle to a five year cycle. If I didn't look into, though, I wouldn't have guessed that.

JAE...that's exactly what it means! However, they would prefer that which can be said with one word, could better be argued if it contained 100 words!!

Man you guys are milking what could have been one word responses! ;)
