Hi guys.
According to ASCE rules the soil should be represented as non linear springs in FEA of buried pipelines.
My understanding is that uplift stiffnes includes the soil weight since it depends on how deep the pipe is installed.
However, recently a geotechnical professional told me that in FEA the weight of soil must be also included as vertical applied loads, not only the uplift springs.
Does anybody has experiencr with this issue to clarify this point?
Thanks.
